As this productivity series draws to a close, I decided we’re gonna go there as a grand finale. I’m gonna share the 4 productivity tips that I do on a daily basis that might piss off your mother.
(so, like, be a pal and don’t tell my mom, please?)
If there’s been one common theme I hope you’ve taken from these posts, it’s that productivity is a fluid concept. It is NOT just a series of one-size-fits-all steps you can take. No one’s productivity routine will look exactly the same as someone else’s, and that’s a good thing.
The point of this series is to inspire you to find productivity tools and habits that make you HAPPY and effective.
Cuz guess what…
You can’t really have one without the other, buddy.
Alright, let’s piss off some moms and learn some awesome productivity tips at the same time! Woo-Hoo!
Make someone else do it
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is take stock of what you are good at, and what you are not good at (or don’t enjoy). We’re all awesome at something, and we’re all shitty at stuff, too. That is NOTHING to feel bad about.
The people who are usually super successful are the ones who take time to acknowledge their strengths, focus on those, and delegate the rest to someone else who IS good at the stuff they aren’t.
So if you find yourself feeling really burnt out, frustrated, or unmotivated by certain aspects of your business… make someone else do it for you (as in: hire an amazing professional and pay them appropriately).
Don’t clean your room
Productivity is prioritizing what matters and organizing your schedule accordingly. As a full-time mom and copywriter, it is way too easy for me to look around at all of the stuff I have to do in a day and feel like hiding under a rock.
But I quickly learned that if I don’t clean my room, the world doesn’t stop spinning. Don’t feel like you always have to do EVERYTHING all the time. Pick 3 important tasks for the day, focus on those, and if the other shit doesn’t get done… it’s OK.
So if you only have the energy to choose between setting aside time for yourself to eat/do yoga (or whatever replenishes you), or clean your room…
Leave those dirty clothes on the floor and shut the door for another day.
Nobody believes in themselves without some work. The phrase “Fake it ‘til your make” is what might come to mind. But it’s true.
Imposter Syndrome is like an annoying mother-in-law who shows up unannounced (and uninvited) and criticizes everything you do. It doesn’t matter what stage your business is in, Imposter Syndrome will always rear its ugly head.
That’s why it’s important to take time to tell yourself how great you are (even if you don’t quite believe it yet.)
Even if it feels like lying right now: repeat empowering affirmations, and give yourself pep-talks in the mirror. Eventually, you will start to believe it, meaning that Imposter Syndrome and self-doubt won’t visit as often.
Sleep in ‘til noon
Rest is one of THE most productive things you can do for your business. Working until you can’t see-straight, or not setting boundaries to where you’re not taking care of yourself, is tempting but very counter-productive.
Make sure you rest BEFORE you start to feel rundown. It’s much better to take extra time for yourself each day then hit a burnout wall and need days or more to recover to get back into your groove.
Rest is NOT lazy.
Failing to set boundaries that lead to easily avoidable problems IS lazy.
If you couldn’t tell by now, this post was only just a little satirical… but it was a LOT of fun to write, to be honest.
I hope that this post about productivity tips (as well as the rest) helped you see that productivity isn’t something that you have to stress about. In fact, it is the exact opposite. Productivity, when implemented properly, alleviates stress and helps you stay on track without losing your mind.
Be sure to let me know about your favorite productivity tips, it’s important that we share this stuff with our community.
You never know if your habit or routine might be a game-changer for someone else, so don’t be stingy! 😉
