A Productivity & Organization App
Running a small business gets overwhelming FAST. There are so many aspects, tasks, and to-do’s that it’s easy to get discouraged or even make a mistake without a reliable way of keeping everything organized.
There are TONS of productivity and organization apps out there- and many of them are absolutely free.
I started with Trello, and it’s simple and effective layout made it a wonderful way for me to stay ahead of deadlines and remember all of the smaller but equally important aspects of running my business.
I now use Notion, which is just… an incredibly flexible and fluid productivity environment. I track everything from my goals, work schedule, and even my Christmas shopping list lol. I spend pretty much my entire work-day with it open in its own tab.
While it’s a great tool, it is a bit overwhelming when you first dive-in- but I highly recommend this video by Rowena Tsai.
She’s the reason I fell in love with Notion, and her tutorial is very helpful to get your started.
By no means are Trello and Notion the only awesome productivity apps out there, they’re just the main ones I’ve used and feel comfortable recommending (especially because they’re both free).
The biggest bit of resistance you’re going to experience running your own business is your own brain.
Imposter syndrome, anxiety, stress- that cluster-fuck cocktail that most of us intended to leave behind when we ditched the 9-5 grind.
However, we can’t run from those things, we have to acknowledge them, face them, and push through them. The best way I’ve found to help me do that is by keeping a journal. My journal is stupidly simple because I easily get frustrated with stuff like that…
(ironic considering I LOVE writing and it’s literally my job, I know)
All I do is write:
4 things I’m “Grateful” for
4 things “I’m Proud Of Myself” for
And a 3rd section I title “thoughts” where I just word-vomit out whatever I’m thinking and feeling
Just writing out our stresses and anxieties can make a world of difference, so keep a special little journal nearby where you can get your thoughts out when things are feeling like… A LOT.
A Pinterest Business Account
Back to business-related stuff: you should open a Pinterest Business Account. Pinterest is an incredible resource for driving traffic to your site. This is especially true when trying to build an email list, or if you’re writing blogs (which you should) to establish your expertise in a particular industry.
It’s easy to set up, free, and while it’s a little extra work, understanding and mastering Pinterest can have incredible ROI.
Email marketing can make some folks (most, probably) feel a twinge of ‘yuck’ when they hear the term. That’s completely understandable considering how our inboxes are clogged with hundreds of obnoxious emails every day.
But email marketing doesn’t have to be icky– not at all. In fact, they can be a powerful tool that not only helps you sell to hot leads but also let you connect with your customers on an intimate level that builds trust.
Your customers’ trust is an irreplaceable asset.
Email is my favorite form of copy to write because it’s so personal and genuine, and you really can have the power to brighten someone’s inbox when they see your emails.

The most important thing to remember when writing emails is to be yourself. Be genuine and unapologetically you, and when the time comes when you do have something to sell, you’ll have an email list full of folks who are already fans and more likely to buy from you than cold leads.

Blogs are yet another crucial means of driving traffic to your site, establishing your expertise, building your email list, building trust with your ideal customers, and growing your engagement.

Don’t forget why you started, and if you are struggling, sit down and reconnect with your ‘why’, take a day to practice self-care, and remember that we’re all struggling and dealing with these super uncomfortable feelings of doubt and fear.
Fear usually means that you’re headed in the right direction.
Every incredible brand started somewhere… and as long as you don’t give up, there’s no limit to how far you can go and how vast your business can grow.
